NCLCI press release |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 27, 1996 A STATEMENT OF THE NATIONAL CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE FOR ISRAEL ON THE PEACE PROCESS The National Christian Leadership Conference for Israel (NCLCI) is cognizant of the impatience and regret expressed by a number of our American Church leaders that the Middle East peace process seems to have flagged. We remind our colleagues, however, that the democratically elected government of Israel, in considering the wisdom of concessions to the Palestinian Authority in Hebron and elsewhere, must also weigh the effect of such concessions on other Middle East nations, including Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Iran, that have not relaxed their announced determination to destroy the State of Israel. The reality remains that some nations that Israel would need as its partners in peace continue to be dominated by hostile ideologies that have given little evidence of willingness to participate in authentic rapprochement with Israel. |
