Sanders Enlists Anti-Israel Voices to Help Draft Democrats' Platform

WASHINGTON (JTA) — The Democratic Party platform drafting committee is top heavy with veterans of political battles over Israel — some friendly, some critical, and including at least one major backer of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. The Democratic National Committee named the committee on Monday, a day after reports emerged that Bernie Sanders, an Independent senator from Vermont running for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, wants the platform to elevate the issue of Palestinian rights. Boycotts: Who Should do What?

Up to now, most of the anti-boycott activity has been basically defensive. It assumes that Israel can be vindicated by providing relevant information. Either one complains that the anti-Israel activists are misrepresenting reality, by lying or omitting relevant facts or whatever. Or one complains that there are other countries that obviously deserve to be targeted in the alleged respects, but Israel alone is picked out for criticism and attack. Both strategies fall under the rubric "It's not fair!" They are so familiar as to need no further elaboration here. (Read More...)

BDS, Terrorism Two Sides of the Same Coin

Israel’s minister of public security, strategic affairs and public diplomacy said on Sunday that though the tools of the proponents of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and Palestinian terrorists are different, “They are united in their goals, their language of hate and their victims.” (Read More...)

Portland St. Raises Money for Hamas

On college campuses across the country, Palestinian activists have been deeply involved in pushing the BDS movement, which advocates for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctioning of Israeli products. Filmmaker Ami Horowitz recently visited Portland State University, a hot spot of the BDS movement in America, to see how far students would be willing to go to support the anti-Israel cause. Palestinian Museum in West Bank Opens With No Exhibits

BIRZEIT, West Bank — When the $24 million Palestinian Museum celebrates its opening on Wednesday, it will have almost everything: a stunning, contemporary new building; soaring ambitions as a space to celebrate and redefine Palestinian art, history and culture; an outdoor amphitheater; a terraced garden. One thing the museum will not have is exhibitions. (Read More...)

Calling Israel "Apartheid" is Insulting to Black South Africans

I am from Zimbabwe and grew up under the strictest regime of apartheid in South Africa. Today, I am an author and law student at University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. I am an avid debater, ranked fourth globally and first in Africa in the World Universities Public Speaking Championship. I have read the recent guest column in The Oregonian written by Alice Rothchild. I understand that the Methodist and, later, the Presbyterian Church USA are considering proposals to boycott and divest from Israel. (Read More...)

Defense Minister Urges Restraint

Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon has one of the most coveted portfolios in the government, but lately he seems to be vying for a different role – that which involves the upholding of the country’s morals. This is pretty funny, considering that the Jewish state is under constant attack from regional enemies armed to the teeth and filled with hate, in addition to more geographically distant foes fighting a battle of delegitimization. But it is not the least bit amusing that he chose Memorial Day for fallen IDF soldiers and victims of Arab terrorism – at the gravesite of dead Jewish soldiers and civilians, no less — to reiterate his concern about the ethical character of the Israeli popul
