Number of Jews worldwide nears 1925’s level, but still far short of pre-WWII

Ahead of Holocaust Remembrance Day, which begins Monday evening, the Central Bureau of Statistics on Sunday released data on the number of Jews worldwide. According to the CBS, there were 14.7 million Jews at the end of 2018, just shy of the 14.8 million there were in 1925 but still significantly fewer than the 16.6 million there were on the eve of World War II in 1939, and the Holocaust in which six million Jews were systematically murdered. The 6.7 million Jews in Israel accounted for 45 percent of the world population. Of them, 5.2 million were born in Israel while the majority of the rest, 1 million, were born either in Europe or on the American continent.

The Eichmann Files

In the famous trial of Adolf Eichmann, who headed the Gestapo Department for Jewish Affairs, 1,506 documents were filed by the court as "smoking guns" against Eichmann. They show how he insisted on reaching every single Jew, how he tried to cover up the extermination by using the phrase "special treatment," how he fumed that in his opinion, there were too few Jews on the death trains. And how he personally ensured that children were also sent to Auschwitz. Sixty years after Eichmann's capture, the evidence used against him is revealed: Thousands of telegrams and transcripts prove how his monstrous policy was implemented, how he tried to cover up the annihilation, how he raged when the monthl

100 Years Since the San Remo Conference

In April, we commemorate the 100th anniversary of when Jewish historic rights to the land of Israel became Jewish legal rights! The San Remo Conference, convened in Italy from April 19 until April 26, 1920, converted the Balfour Declaration of 1917 into a binding international treaty, setting the stage for the League of Nations Mandate, which was approved in 1922. The foundation of Jewish legal rights established through San Remo were preserved in Article 80 of the UN Charter in 1945. In April 2020, the Jewish people will be commemorating the 100th anniversary of the San Remo Conference, convened in Italy from April 19 until April 26, 1920, in the aftermath of the First World War. Minnesota high school students mock Jews being sent to Auschwitz in TikTok video

(JTA) — Two Minnesota high school students were criticized for sharing a video titled “Me and the boys on the way to camp,” which photoshops them dancing in a Nazi boxcar and happily skipping into Auschwitz, on the video social media platform TikTok. The video contains humorous music whose lyrics include “Tell everybody I’m on my way.” In response, the two boys shown in the video — posted by a high school student from Nicollet High School in Nicollet, Minnesota — were assigned a research paper titled “Hitler’s Final Solution at Auschwitz.” The incident was first reported by TC Jewfolk. Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, sa

In the age of corona, antisemitism is on the rise around the world

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - The coronavirus crisis is stirring anti-Semitism around the world, fuelled by centuries-old lies that Jews are spreading infection, researchers in Israel said on Monday. The findings, in the annual report on Anti-Semitism Worldwide by the Kantor Center at Tel Aviv University, showed an 18% rise in anti-Semitic incidents in 2019 over the previous year. In the first few months of 2020, far-right politicians in the United States and Europe and ultra-conservative pastors have seized upon the health crisis and its resulting economic hardship to foster hatred against Jews, the researchers said. “Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a significant rise i

March of the Living launches Virtual Holocaust Remembrance Initiative

The 2020 March was postponed due to COVID-19 but Holocaust Remembrance continues with Virtual Plaques dedicated and placed on infamous Birkenau train tracks “This year, for the first time in 32 years, we are not able to march in Auschwitz-Birkenau,” says Dr. Shmuel Rosenman, world chair of the March of the Living, “but that will not stop us. We will continue to educate the next generation with the values we have been teaching for three decades.” Due to the Coronavirus world pandemic, the 2020 March of the Living will not take place on Holocaust Remembrance Day, but the organization remains committed to advancing the educational message of the March despite the cancellation of this year’s ma

As corona pandemic spreads, so do anti-Semitic conspiracy theories

World Zionist Organization official: Phenomenon of accusing the Jews of creating epidemics and diseases is not new. We will continue to fight anti-Semitism and we will prevail. Anti-Semitic stickers were discovered in a Hamburg subway car this week, comparing state measures against people diagnosed with the coronavirus with the Nazi extermination policy. The stickers, found in a subway car between Barmbek and St. Pauli, were attached to the windows. One of the two stickers consisted of a yellow heart with the text "I CORONA". The second, in the shape of a yellow Star of David, read "Coronavirus!!" with the symbol for biohazard in its middle. Read more

Jew-Baiting is Not a Lenten Sacrifice

For Christians, Lent is supposed to be a time of self-reflection, compunction, and repentance, but that’s not how it’s turning out for Christians who seem to be having a tough time dealing with the stress caused by the COVID-19 crisis afflicting humanity. Instead of putting their faith in God’s providence and interpreting their suffering through the lens of Christ’s time in the desert, these Christians are using the current crisis as an opportunity to promote hatred of the Jews. Italian painter Giovanni Gasparro provided the most egregious example of this phenomenon on March 25, 2020, when he posted a photograph of a recent painting of his titled “The Martyrdom of St. Simon of Trento in Acco
