Traveling in a Jeep through the Golan Heights feels a lot like riding a rollercoaster up and down Israel’s green mountain range. A very exuberant guide led my tour group, explaining the sights flying by as we traveled to what he deemed a “geological phenomenon” – Juba.
Needing to take a break, my group paused at a rest stop and our guide began to give us some historical background on the local region. But we were soon approached by a man in military pants and a dark T-Shirt, wearing a turban on his head and holding a machine gun close to his side. I began to pray, thinking that we were in danger.
