Meet the Cabinet: Spotlight on James Mattis

Gen. James “Mad Dog” Mattis – the first member of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet to be confirmed – received strong bipartisan support in his confirmation as secretary of defense. At one time, he was considered to be a possible vice presidential pick before Mike Pence was chosen as Trump’s running mate. As head of the United States Department of Defense, Mattis, 66, will advise Trump on matters of national security strategy and carry out the president’s defense and security policies.
